Smart Lighting for Train Stations & Railway Yards
Enhancing rail infrastructure with intelligent, responsive lighting
Train stations and railway yards are high-pressure environments that never stop. From ensuring commuter safety on busy platforms to managing complex cargo logistics in vast switching yards, lighting is a critical utility. However, keeping these large areas fully lit during low-traffic hours leads to massive energy waste and high maintenance costs.
TVILIGHT offers the intelligence to bridge this gap. Our outdoor light control solutions turn rail lighting into a responsive network that adapts to train schedules, passenger movement, and operational needs. We help rail authorities reduce energy overhead while maintaining the highest safety standards for both passengers and staff.
Responsive Lighting
Adaptable illumination that supports safety without trading off energy savings.
- On-demand platform lighting. Platforms stay at energy-saving levels, instantly brightening to 100% when sensors detect a passenger or an approaching train.
- Selective yard management. Group lights into operational zones; keep active maintenance areas at 100% while dimming inactive tracks to save costs.
- The “Blue-Light” safety. Native DALI DT6 / DT7 / DT8 control lets rail authorities tune colour and temperature across platforms, including calming blue-light scenes associated with safer passenger well-being.
- Timetable-aware profiles. Lighting scenes align with the published timetable – peak-hour commuter levels, overnight caretaker lighting, weekend service reductions – all switching automatically.
One Platform for the Whole Network
Manage platforms, yards, and remote transit hubs from a single screen.
- CityManager dashboard. Platforms, yards, forecourts and depots – every luminaire in one place, with live data on energy use, burn hours, driver health and more.
- Mobile operational control. Authorised personnel can use a dedicated app to override brightness and duration on the spot for safe handling of shunting, coupling and maintenance without calling a central operator.
- Real-time fault monitoring. Receive instant alerts for lamp or power failures, ensuring safety even on remote platforms is never compromised.
- Occupancy heatmaps. Visualize passenger flow through sensor data to optimize station layouts and cleaning schedules.
Built for Railway Environments
Solutions designed for the vibration, electromagnetic noise, and round-the-clock demand of a working railway.
- Vibration and EMI resilience. Designed to operate reliably under the continuous mechanical vibration and electromagnetic interference common to platforms, tracks and shunting yards.
- Constant Lumen Output (CLO). Lamps deliver the designed light level on day one and year ten; no gradual dimming of platforms or yards as luminaires age.
- 3-level fail-safe. If a controller or sensor fails, lamps return to a safe default brightness automatically – the station is never left in the dark, and the yard never loses its working light.
Open and Future-Ready
A standardised foundation that integrates with existing and new rail infrastructure.
- Any luminaire, any generation: Works with Zhaga Book 18 (D4i), NEMA 7-Pin and 5-Pin, DALI DT6 / DT7 / DT8 and 0–10V / 1–10V — from modern platform luminaires to heritage-style station lamps and yard floodlights.
- Open standards: TALQ-certified and uCIFI-aligned, with a full Open API. Data flows cleanly into station security, passenger-information and smart-rail platforms.
- Hybrid connectivity. A self-healing RF mesh for dense station environments, combined with cellular options for isolated depots and sidings – one deployment, end-to-end coverage.
- Smart-station ready. Each pole and platform node can host air-quality sensors, people counters, passenger-information repeaters and CCTV over the same network – no second system to install.
