Aura Light and Tvilight partner to tap into the power of Industrial Internet of Things

BrightMind System, new intelligent wireless lighting control system, to streamline smart building automation and optimize energy performance of industrial facilities

Stockholm, SwedenAura Light, a Swedish lighting company and a global leader in sustainable lighting solutions for professional customers, has partnered with Tvilight to deliver an end-to-end intelligent lighting solution for industrial building applications. BrightMind System (BMS), the intelligent wireless lighting control system consisting of both hardware and software, will allow users to monitor and control their lighting infrastructure remotely, with greater efficiency and energy savings. BrightMind System will help lower the energy consumption of buildings, bring convenience and comfort to the occupants, and enable facility managers to connect and use a multitude of intelligent building sensors. It will connect the lighting points into a single powerful wireless network, on top of which additional sensors, e.g., for occupancy monitoring or HVAC control, can be integrated in a plug-and-play form. The system is expected to become available in Q3 2016.

The hardware part of the solution is an integrated wireless controller with a DALI and 1-10V output. It can be connected to conventional as well as modern LED luminaires via a dimmable ballast/ LED driver. The device further offers a universal interface to connect a multitude of sensors for indoor presence detection and daylight linking.

The BMS software offers a state-of-the-art online asset management system. Custom dashboard design will allow building owners and facility managers to remotely review the health of their lighting infrastructure, monitor energy savings, and check the real-time occupancy levels in the industrial and building environment. This, in turn, will allow to plan more efficiently the use of meeting rooms, warehouses, factory floors, and other available spaces. BrightMind System will deliver excellent value to market segments such as industrial facilities, warehouses, roads and tunnels, indoor parking, fuel stations and many other areas.

Industrial sector is traditionally characterized by high electricity consumption for lighting; daily operating hours for lamps in the industrial sector are also greater than in any other sector. For instance, electricity use for building lighting in the industry like Computer and Electronics in the US can reach 228,300 kWh per year. Naturally, companies are looking into possible ways of optimizing lighting electricity consumption through adopting building automation systems to which lighting sensors and controls are a crucial part. By integrating cutting-edge lighting technologies, it is possible to improve energy consumption in industrial facilities and turn them into intelligent spaces, significantly strengthening the energy performance of the buildings.

When it comes to optimizing lighting in industrial spaces, the opportunities are immense. BrightMind System will be transforming buildings into intelligent, energy efficient and healthy ecosystems,” says Chintan Shah, CEO of Tvilight.

Lighting is tightly interconnected with the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), because luminaires, with their wide-spread presence, represent an evident medium for wireless controls and sensors. Not surprisingly, the market for advanced sensors in intelligent buildings is growing rapidly and is expected to pass $1 billion in 2016. Furthermore, according to McKinsey Global Institute, industrial spaces such as factories are the largest source of value from a potential adoption of IoT technologies—here, the overall economic impact from IoT adoption is estimated to range between $1.2 trillion and $3.7 trillion per year.
